Shelving should fit your present needs and when possible be adjustable to fit alternative use.
Each of these sets of shelves has a different type of storage use.
The breakfront style shelves above are wired for electricity and speakers. The top shelves are adjustable and fit your small personal items. The bottom bookcase openings have fixed book size shelves. The front of the bookcase openings can be retro fitted with double doors if necessary.
This floor standing shelving was built to hold a record collection. It is made of 1x4 fir decking material and structurally designed to hold a lot of weight. The layout could change for other uses.
The built-in closet above has plywood walls and shelves that have a smooth finish which resist catching the fabrics. There are parallel rows of 1/4 inch holes along the outside walls to adjust the shelves. As seen below, storage in older homes is usually at a premium. This small area between a staircase and a chimney is fitted with clothing storage.
